Basic information

Ammonium aluminum sulfate is a kind of inorganic substance, chemical formula NH4Al(SO4)2, is colorless, transparent crystal or white powder.  It is slightly soluble in water, dilute acid and glycerol, aqueous solution is acidic, insoluble in alcohol.  They often exist in the form of 12 water crystals 

Property

The taste is slightly sweet and astringent.  It loses 10 molecules of crystal water at 120℃, becomes anhydrous at about 250℃, and decompositions above 280℃.  1g dissolved in 7ml water and 0.5ml boiling water.  Soluble in glycerin, almost insoluble in ethanol, aqueous solution is acidic to litmus.  The pH of 0.05mol/L solution was 4.6.  The relative density is 1.64.  Refractive index 1.459. 

Colorless to white crystal, or crystalline powder, tablet, block.  Odorless, astringent taste, melting point 93.5℃.  When heated to 250℃, the water of crystal becomes white powder, that is, alum burning.  Above 280 degrees it breaks down and releases ammonia.  Soluble in water (20℃ solubility 15g), dilute acid, glycerin, aqueous solution is acidic, insoluble

Applications

Water treatment agent, used in leather industry as aluminium tanning agent and post-treatment agent for leather tensifying skin;  The dye industry uses it as a dye repellent.  Sizing agent used in paper sizing in the paper industry.  The glass industry uses yellow glass as a colorant.  Used in medicine as an astringent, etc.  Printing and dyeing industry used as a mordant;  Food grade products used as buffer, Leavening Agent, etc.;  Agriculture is high quality Nitrogen Fertilizer can be used as base fertilizer, topdressing, fertilizer;  Used as an analytical reagent also used as a mordant, soft water agent, and used in pigment manufacturing, pharmaceutical industry, semiconductor industry.
